A Remarkable Trip to Compiägne and Burgundy!:

Several AFCDC members took an amazing trip to Compiägne in May! This lovely trip enlightened and delighted visitors as they got an up-close-and-personal look at our magnificent Château, the city of Compiägne, and other treasures of the Picardie region. (Click the title to read more)

A significant portion of the cost of the trip was a donation to the Château. Pictures to come soon!

1st Anniversary Event:

Mayor Nancy McFarlane and Husband Host AFCDC – NC Anniversary Event!

One year ago we launched the American Friends of the Château de Compiägne – NC Chapter. Over the past 12 months we had the honor and privilege of hosting a number of amazing events, with the goal of bringing the joys of French culture to our friends here in the states. Our members increased throughout the year, and we now find ourselves part of a fantastic family of folks who share our passions.

Our launch event last May was one for the books, and Mayor McFarlane was kind enough to open her home to us again as we celebrated our first anniversary in style. This special occasion took place on May 5th, a gorgeous spring evening where members and friends alike came together to celebrate friendship, food, and wine. The master culinary minds at Irregardless Cafe & Catering provided delicious hors d’ouevres, and Laure Levesque of Queen of Wines gave everyone a delightful taste of France. It was a pleasure seeing you all as we happily raised our glasses to another year filled with great company and many more wonderful events; we are excited for all that is to come!

UNC REX Hospital Event:

On April 14th our wonderful friends at UNC REX Healthcare graciously hosted us for an amazing food and wine event.

Award-winning Executive Chef Ryan Conklin, who led a team of UNC REX Healthcare chefs on to win the final Battle of Champions in the statewide “Got to Be NC” Competition Dining Series, prepared a fantastic French-themed dinner. The amazing menu featured a selection of homemade canapÇs, charcuterie, and French-style cheeses, as well as a five course strolling dinner. The UNC REX chefs went above and beyond for our guests–taking the time to explain each course and teaching everyone a thing or two about French culinary traditions; all the while, Bill Baucom, local singer and songwriter, provided a lovely backdrop of music–even a French tune or two.

Networking, delicious appetizers, and an exquisite sit-down meal paired with very fine French wines. Needless to say, a great time was had by all!

Cary Florist Event:

On Monday February 29th 2016 a group of members, guests, and friends gathered together to celebrate Leap Day the best way we know how; drinking wine and talking about the incredible flowers that surround The Château de Compiägne. Janice Cutler–owner and president of the newly opened Cary Florist–graciously opened her space to us, providing the perfect backdrop to enjoy a lovely array of wine, cheese, and hors d’ouevres.

Janice prepared some stunning flower arrangements and led a discussion highlighting the various floras adorning the château. Our merry group of Francophiles was also treated to a selection of wines from the Lyon region of France, which Janice procured from the Wine Feed in Raleigh.   AFCDC member, Laure Levesque, owner of Queen of Wines provided a brief description of the wines served.

Great food, wine, atmosphere, and weather made this event one to remember.

Chateau Donation:

We started the NC Chapter of the AFCDC with a mission to preserve the beauty of the Château de Compiägne by raising money to support renovations to the historic estate. We’ve hosted many events and built a wonderful network of members over the last year, and now we are thrilled to announce that we will be donating $10,000 to the Château de Compiägne. We could not have achieved this goal without our dedicated member pool. We thank you for your patronage and friendship, and hope you will continue supporting this great cause in the future.
