Mayor Nancy McFarlane and Husband Host AFCDC – NC Anniversary Event!
It has been one year since we launched the American Friends of the Château de Compiägne – NC Chapter. It’s true, time certainly flies when you’re having fun and the past 12 months have been an absolute joy! Our launch event was one for the books, and Mayor McFarlane was kind enough to open her home to us again as we celebrate our first anniversary in similar style.
This very special occasion took place on a gorgeous spring evening where members and friends alike came together to celebrate friendship, food, and wine. Irregardless Cafe & Catering provided delicious hors d’ouevres and Laure Levesque, Queen of Wines, gave everyone a delightful taste of France. We raised our glasses to another year filled with great company and many more wonderful events, we are excited for all that is to come!
UNC REX Healthcare Sponsors French Food & Wine Event
Our wonderful friends at UNC REX Healthcare were the gracious hosts of an amazing food and wine event!
Award-winning Executive Chef Ryan Conklin, who led a team of UNC REX Healthcare chefs on to win the final Battle of Champions in the statewide “Got to Be NC” Competition Dining Series, prepared an amazing French-themed dinner. The evening included networking, delicious appetizers, and an exquisite sit-down meal, all of which was, of course, paired with very fine French wines. A great time was had by all!
An Evening at Cary Florist
On Monday February 29th 2016 a group of members, guests, and friends gathered together to celebrate Leap Day the best way we know how; drinking wine and talking about the incredible flowers that surround The Château de Compiägne. Janice Cutler–owner and president of the newly opened Cary Florist–graciously opened her space to us, providing the perfect backdrop to enjoy a lovely array of wine, cheese, and hors d’ouevres.
Janice prepared some stunning flower arrangements and led a discussion highlighting the various floras adorning the château. Our merry group of Francophiles was also treated to a selection of wines from the Lyon region of France which Janice procured from the Wine Feed in Raleigh. AFCDC member, Laure Levesque, owner of Queen of Wines provided a brief description of the wines served.
Although it is decidedly still winter, the gods of spring kindly worked their magic–adding the perfect weather to accompany an already delightful evening. We hope to see you at our next event!
Our Sparkling Holiday Event!
On Monday evening, December 14th, a group of our members, their guests, and friends enjoyed a lovely holiday season celebration “en le style Français” at the beautiful home of Committee Member Debbie Aiken and her husband George. Delicious wines, cheeses, hors d’ouevres, and sweets, along with the company of fellow Francophiles and loved ones, made this a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays and look forward to the New Year. The Aiken’s home was the perfect location, its dÇcor reminiscent of a French country house, and spirits were merry and bright. We look forward to seeing you at a future event, and Bonne AnnÇe!
AFCDC Launches a New Chapter!
On November 18, 2015, AFCDC was launched in Houston, TX. Three of our Committee members – Patty Briguglio (Chair), Donna Rhode (Vice-Chair/Secretary), and Catharine Arrowood – joined in the festivities. A luncheon was hosted by Lady Donna Chapman in her lovely home, and was attended by about 50 local community members who share in the love of French culture and may wish to help the AFCDC cause. The Raleigh delegation was treated like (Compiägne) royalty with private viewings of the Menil Collection, The Rothko Chapel, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Rienzi House.
